Tapping into Your Vital Energy with Qigong

Join me for Elemental Movements, an online series of Qigong courses. If you’re unfamiliar with Qigong, it’s a form of mindful movement similar to Tai Chi. (You can learn more about Qigong here. And you can check out a free Qigong instructional video here!)

Each Elemental Movements course (detailed below) consists of videos that you can watch whenever you’d like. In most of the videos, I’m teaching Qigong exercises. Some videos feature slide-slow presentations of relevant Qigong topics. My primary influences for these courses are the teachings of Qigong masters Bruce Frantzis and Damo Mitchell.

The Elements Movements courses are for anyone who wants to deepen their connection to their own life force and improve their physical and mental well-being. The courses help you to experience:

  • healthier organ function (including your heart, lungs, and digestive organs),

  • improved balance, coordination, strength, and stamina,

  • and enhanced mental-emotional ease and resilience.

These courses are great for beginners as well as intermediate Qigong practitioners. As long as you have a body, some breath, and some awareness, you’ll be in the right place!

Each course builds upon the previous one, so I strongly encourage you to start with Elemental Movements 1 and proceed from there. Below, you’ll find descriptions of the courses.

ELEMENTAL MOVEMENTS 1: FOUNDATIONS

In EM1, we “prepare the soil” for your Qigong practice.

We begin with an introduction to Qigong, where we cover Qigong’s Daoist origins; the nature of Qi; and the purpose and benefits of Qigong.

Then, I guide you through an entire Warm-Up and Warm-Down sequence of exercises, including Pulling Down the Heavens; a joint-circling series; Qigong shaking; a stretching series; and much more!

Together, the Warm-Up and Warm-Down help us attune to our inner landscape; release tensions and fixations; and get the Qi flowing!

ELEMENTAL MOVEMENTS 2: SINKING

EM2 is all about grounding. If you really want to learn how to practice becoming grounded, you won’t want to miss this course!

First, we spend some time examining the parts of the body that are important in Qigong—the parts of the tangible body and also the parts of the energetic body—and what to do with these parts to support the grounding process.

Then we move out of the conceptual realm and into our bodies, as we explore the standing pose and the practice of “sinking”—rooting ourselves downward. Standing and sinking are at the core of Qigong.

Everyone talks about wanting to be more grounded. But often, that aspiration remains superficial, stuck at a conceptual level. In this course, we learn how to bring “grounding” into the body—how to make it a felt reality.

ELEMENTAL MOVEMENTS 3: CIRCULATING

In EM3, we build on the skills we’ve established in the first two courses—placing the awareness in the body; releasing obstructions; and sinking the Qi downward. Now, it’s time to start circulating the Qi!

I guide you in several key Qigong movements, including Swings; Cloud Hands; the Daoist Spinal Stretch; and the Eight Silk Brocades. At the end of the course, we practice an hour-long session together, incorporating everything we’ve learned in the three Elemental Movements courses.
